Religious Education & Worldviews

Our Vision

At our school, we want every child to develop a deep and meaningful understanding of different worldviews, religions and celebrations. We aspire to nurture open-minded, accepting and compassionate individuals who celebrate diversity with empathy and respect, valuing the beliefs and traditions of others. Through Religious Education and Worldviews, children are encouraged to explore beliefs, values and cultures in a safe and supportive environment where honesty is promoted, and pupils feel confident to share their thoughts openly and thoughtfully.

We aim to provide rich opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development, inspiring a passion for exploring big questions about life, belief and identity. Through engaging and challenging learning experiences, children develop the determination to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and persevere in understanding complex ideas. RE and Worldviews supports pupils in building self-belief, enabling them to articulate their own developing worldviews with confidence and clarity.

Rooted in the ‘Ways of Knowing’, our curriculum develops skills of enquiry, asking questions, analysing data, evaluating arguments and looking at art and stories. Through discussion, debate and collaborative learning, children practise teamwork, learning to listen carefully, respect differing viewpoints and work together to deepen their understanding.

Through RE, we aim to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and values they need to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world, fostering understanding, compassion and a strong sense of belonging.

Right of withdrawal

Although teaching RE is a legal requirement for schools in England, parents do have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons or any part of the RE curriculum. If you wish to withdraw, please write a letter to the head teacher at Oakwood Primary School outlining which aspects of RE you wish to withdraw your child from (all or specific units).

Knowledge Organisers

Please see below for our knowledge organisers, which outline the key learning for each topic area across every phase group.
